iPad - yes or no?

im deff going to say no,i think apple are a good company to bring out such products as the mac and the ipod but i think they are moving too fast in the current climate,the world is in a recession and they release the iPad, also i think they need to sort out a few issues with their other products before they release anything new,the ipod seems to have numerous amounts of errors and glitches. So overall i think they have a great idea just not the right time to release it

If they were to release a version of logic for it, then i may be tempted. i'd love something like this for doing production when i'm out and about, and while the Windows 7 based slates could use ableton, it wouldn't be able to run particular well due to memory limitations (usually 1GB on a slate).

with the windows 7 you could use readyboost with a usb stick. however it still will be no match to a powerful laptop costing the same amount

Yeah, that might help a bit, but they're still pretty slow processors. the clostest thng so far is the laptops like the toshiba portege, which have a swivel screen so you can turn it into a slate if you want. they're at leat £1000 tho!

itll be at least 4 years id say before there cheap and powerful. maybe even a lot quicker depending on the popularity

yeah, hopefully it'll be sooner than later. it just seems daft that the can build laptops with dual core processors and lots of memory, but to remove the keyboard and add a touch screen costs loads more! i think part of the problem is they all seem to use SSDs for storage, and they are pretty expensive (a 512GB SSD can cost £1500!) I'm sure they could put something together for a reasonable price that is still pretty powerful.

The people to watch over the next couple of years will be AMD. when they release their fusion range of CPU/GPU on 1 chip, I can see them being used to power devices like this. they're already aiming to get power consumption between 1 and 10 watts, and they'll probably have decent graphics as they'll be using their own ATI GPUs.

I don't own an ipod or even use itunes so doubt i'd fork cash for an interactive place mat.

I think it would be cool to have to carry around the house room to room and in bed. It would have everything as far as media capabilities it would seem so yes, I'd give it a try

Buy a laptop. It's got a keyboard, screen, fast processor, multi-usb ports, + numerous other connectivity options. Wi-fi, Bluetooth.
DVD re-writer.
4 times cheaper than i-pad.

Too expensive. If I had the money I would possibly get it, but the Samsung Galaxy looks nice! Haven't researched the Galaxy enough though.
