What's the reason behind your choice of User Name or Avatar?

Have you ever wondered about someones screen name or avatar?

This post is a result of a conversation ____ and I had. He asked about my User name BlackSwan and how I came to choose it. He found the story interesting and also had a cool story about why his is ____.

I thought it might be interesting for members to share their own reasons for choosing their user name and avatar.

No one had ever asked before ____ but I guess it's actually an interesting story.

I'm what you might call a nonconformist. I have a unique view of life, different values, and often employ unusual methods of getting things done. I've followed my own path my whole life, often going against conventional wisdom.

One day, my Mom was speaking to a relative about my "too perfect" sister, who has always done everything by the book. When the conversation turned to me, my Mom referred to me as her "little Black Swan" (instead of Black Sheep). She defended my way of doing things to my relative by saying, " it may not be conventional but the results are always beautiful. (She went with Black Swan because Black Sheep sounded negative and ugly.)

The name stuck. Let me tell you, it's not easy finding avatars of Black Swans that aren't totally feminine looking.

The reason for my name is simple, i am a one legged punk.

Mine is my producer/DJ name (so chosen because it sounded good, shows my interest in electronic music, and before me there were no results in a google search for 'electronomist'!).

My avatar is just me! Although on some other sites i use an avatar of Quagmire from family guy, but that's a different story ha ha!

Mine is because of the first song I can ever remember hearing.

my story doesnt have anything special really, it all started when i was playing for a hockey team and the guys instead of calling me by my full last name (Goussev) they would just go "Goose!" or like "Goo"!! Eventually everyone started calling me Goose and i didnt mind the nickname i actually liked it heh, and once i got here i thought that Goose as a nickname would look ridiculous, so i inspired myself from the mighty Deadmau5 (which is read deadmouse) and decided to do like him, by replacing an S by a 5, and voila, it gave '____'

Nowadays, my friends associate my name to the vodka 'Grey Goose' and they joke about it because im Russian and i drink alot (not lol) ...

jaja everyone has a lot of nice stories :).., actually when i was very young i loved the moon, sometimes i rested on the floor and spent a lot of time looking at the moon!...
and when i came for the first time to this forum i thought that it can be nice if the moon were more closer to us!...jaja and we can watch it more clean!...

As for my nick, comes from the nickname that my friends had given me.
In our group I was the one who wasn't very present, but who always knew everything that happened.
Since this is my nickname and my avatar.

My username is basically my surname :) Its german I think, but my dad is dutch :) I'm Irish then :D

i thought you named yourself after story of the years album, as you had the album art as your avatar for a while :)

I got my name from the trance artist of the same name, im a very big fan of all his work, so i thought id use his name :)

And my picture is to represent the euphoria trance has in my life, ive always loved it, and i thought that image matched perfectly :)

I was having trouble coming up with a username for a few websites, i wanted it to have something to do with wrestling in it (im a big fan of wrestling), so i asked my boyfriend who just came up with triplecharl. triple comes from the wwe wrestler triple h (my fave wwe wrestler) and charl is part of my real name, i dont like my name so i like to be called charl for short. The only problem is on some websites that people cant see my pics, people think im a guy which i aint, im a girl.
I like anime and hamsters so thats why i have that avatar.
