Nice to hear. Thx for the interview.

Love Delta...esp after 3:50 into His track on Anjunadeep:01. That is why I love prog house so much. Nearly as much as prog trance I would say. The best prog house can outdo almost any trance for me. But it's close.

Default Interview with TyDi (Australia's Number One DJ)

Tyson Illingworth, also known as TyDi, is Australia’s number one DJ. During his teenage years, his addiction to music helped him shape into the magnificent TyDi we all know today. Furthermore, his passion for electronic dance music allowed him to compete in various DJ competitions and reach massive accomplishments at a young age like playing at the Trance Energy 2009 at his young age and lots more. In the trance scene, TyDi is known to produce and release tracks under the world’s number one DJ’s record label, Armada, including his newly-released album “Look Closer”. All of these, he had done at the age of 22, there is no doubt that TyDi is an inspiration to all young aspiring DJs and producers.

In your early 20s, you have done this and that in the field of
electronic dance music, I was just wondering, how do you feel right now?

I feel great! Everything is happening and every day is exciting. Life couldn't be any better!

What are the steps you take in order to get a crowd more involved when
DJing? (for example a crowd is dead)

Its all about playing the right music at exactly the right time - Track selection is everything. I watch the crowd, see what works and build my set based on how they react.

Do you follow any routines to keep you in state before you spin? If
yes, what are they?

I like to relax before I play, have a spa or get a massage.

What got you into electronic dance music? which artists have influenced you?

I was exposed to dance music when I was about 14 through some older friends - I fell in love with it and knew from that point I wanted to create it. was influenced by so many different artists, anyone that was making powerful records.

Here's a tricky question, among your productions, can you name 3 of
your favorites?

My 3 favorite songs are always the last 3 that I wrote haha. Right now it is 'Look Closer' from my new album which is more of a chillout song and 'Is it cold' has always been special to me. My most favorite is my latest single called 'You Walk Away', it has vocals from Audrey Gallagher and is on Armin's new CD ASOT 2009.

When you travel around the world, what are the songs you listen to in
your "favorites" playlist? (Name around 3)

My favorites list changes every week when I go through all my new promos. During my travels and on flights I often listen to different styles of music like chillout and movie soundtracks.

Among the places you haven't been to, where would you want to go and
DJ in an event? Why there?

The Philippines would be nice! Also I think it would be awesome to DJ somewhere like Egypt so I could see the pyramids.

You're just a few ages older than me, and I was just wondering, what
were the things you have done during your high school
days that have contributed to your career today?

I spent every lunch time in high school in the music room learning how to read and write music.. I think that helped a lot. After school I would come home and mix tunes or produce my own stuff. I was honestly addicted to dance music!

Aside from DJing and making music, are there other things you enjoy doing?

I grew up by the beach, so its always nice to visit home and go for a swim. I don't have a lot of time off so when I do its always spent with my close friends or just relaxing. Champagne in the spa is always a nice way to relax.

If you were given a chance to spin with a DJ of any record label, who
would it be, and why?

I think I have already DJ'd with them all - I've played with Tiesto, Armin, PVD and all those guys..

Aside from your newly-released album "Look Closer", what can we expect
from Tydi in the near future?

Well my two new singles 'You Walk Away' and 'Somehow' will be out this year along with a remix for Nadia Ali - and I am very excited about those tracks. I am touring everywhere to promote my new album and I am just about to mix a new CD for Ministry of Sound... its all happening!

Default Interview with Marcie Joy

Marcie is an Internationally Renowned Singer/Songwriter for various Major Electronic labels. She writes and performs multiple genres, and has charted in the Top 10 worldwide. Her tunes have the support of of Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Oakenfold, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, XM Radio, BBC, Music Choice, Markus Schulz, DJ Shah, Matt Darey, Solarstone, and more.

Marcie is the producer and creator of "Marcie presents Behind The Lyric", a show that explores the stories behind the lyrics of Electronic Dance Music. The show airs on DI.FM
and other major internet and FM stations worldwide, and features interviews with well known Singer/Songwriters.

Migs:
Hello there Marcie! Thanks for the request!

Ok for the first question: Can you share with us some of your musical
influences?

Marcie:

Hey! Thanks for taking time to chat.

I have a lot of musical influences. I think growing up my main influence was my parents. When I would listen to my dad sing, I could feel a love for singing inside me, and I would want to sing along. My mom was always encouraging me to f ind my confidence and sing with emotional freedom.

I love the singers who tell stories with their voices, and are distinctive both on stage and off. My favorites include Elvis, Madonna, Bono, Barbara Streisand, Etta James, Tori Amos, Ani Difranco, Ben Folds, and many others! As a child, I was mostly exposed to mainstream artists. As I got older, I became inspired by music teachers, and performers who weren't given such widespread media exposure.

Migs:
Aside from singing, do you play other musical instruments? (We can
count in DJing if you do.)

Marcie:
Yes, I play piano and am just picking up the guitar. Aside from singing, I have professional training as a dancer, and in musical theater.

Migs:
This one is an easy question: What is the best part of being an
electronic dance music artist?

Marcie:

The music and the dancing.

Migs:
Something quite tricky for you: Among the productions you have
featured in, which one is your most favorite, and why?

Marcie:

It would be hard to pick my favorite collaborators since I've been lucky to work with many great artists. Each project has been different, and I'm glad for the experience.

Migs:
Have you performed live on stage with a DJ? If yes, how was it like?

Marcie:

Yes, a few times! It is a lot of fun. I performed at the Armada Opening Night party at Winter Music Conference this year. It was a lot of fun to be a part of the excitement that way. It's such an honor to perform one of my songs live, and have people singing the words back to me and dancing along. It's a great way to party.

Migs:
Please complete the following:
The music genre I listen to the most is _____; however, I dislike ____.

Marcie:
The music genre I listen to the most is Electronica of all forms; however, I dislike
the music genre death metal because while there are a few aspects of it that I appreciate, the overall aesthetic is the opposite of anything I like musically.

Please answer the following with a "yes" or a "no":

was an EDM addict during her teenage years? no
appreciated heavy metal? yes
liked hiphop music? yes
wrote songs back in high school?no
is a Twitter addict? no
has siblings who are into music too? yes

Migs:
How do you think your show, "Marcie presents Behind The Lyric" can
help the fans in understanding messages in EDM songs?

Marcie:

I think the show has opened dialogue with listeners about what music means to them. Singers talk about their experiences with song writing and what the collaboration process was like, while producers talk about making tracks. I also think it helps the scene when we focus on the creative process, and the listening experience. I think Artists always run the risk of being judged on superficial aspects like their physicality, age, etc. Focusing solely on those characteristics
diminishes the EDM scene by taking away from the focus on the music.

Migs:
Seeing who you are now, I was just wondering if singing and producing
were parts your dreams back in your early years?

Marcie:
Definitely! I wanted to be a singer, dancer, and pianist by the age of 3. lol. I had to narrow down my focus by the time I went to University. Singing won out, though I still use piano and dance in my art.

Migs:
Any DJ/ producer you would want to work with in the future?

Marcie:
There are quite a few producers I would like to work on more than one track with. Each person I work with brings out something new in me, and that's cool, but it's nice to settle in with some one and really flesh out our ideas, get to know each other’s styles, and push each other’s limits a bit.

Migs:
In your opinion, why are vocals important in music genres like trance,
progressive and house?

Marcie:
I think in the best tracks they ring out at the moment the crowd needs to hear them. As humans, we are going to respond almost primitively to the sound of another human voice. The instrumental music we hear speaks to us in a very important way, and gets us in a specific mindset. Then, the vocal can top it off with an element of humanness that is impossible to manufacture. Even with fx and manipulation, the voice is, at its core, part of the human body, and thus can't be recreated by machine.

Migs:
Aside from you being featured in TyDi and Dennis Sheperd's "Somehow",
what else can we expect from Marcie in the near future?

Marcie:
I've got some upcoming releases on Loverush Digital! My last couple tracks on that label have charted in the top 10 on the UK Club Chart, so I'm hoping the follow ups will do well also. Danilo Ercole and I are also working on a follow up to 'Broken Wings'.

Migs:
Any message for your fans?

Marcie:
Thank you for your ongoing support. It means a lot that you listen to my tunes as that is a highly personal format for me to express myself. Please email me and let me know who you are, and what you'd like to hear. Due to downloading, it's hard nowadays to look at sales and figure out which stuff I'm doing is most well received by the listeners. Sales numbers aren't an accurate representation of downloads. So...I guess if you're not buying my tunes, (which I hope you will), then please at least take time and let me know what you like, so I know how my tracks are being received.

Default An interview with Orla Feeney... by Fiona Walsh

An interview with Orla Feeney... by Fiona Walsh

http://www.fionawalsh.com

From her early days of sneaking into Dublin’s infamous Temple Theatre, Orla Feeney has had always had music in her blood. And though it can’t have been easy to break into the boy’s club of electronic music, Orla’s talent speaks for itself. Orla was kinda enough to answer a few questions for us. If you're a fan, check it out!

http://www.myspace.com/orlafeeneymusic

Fiona: How did you get into dance music, DJing and Producing[

Orla: Well I suppose like most people what got me into EDM was from friends and going to club's and event's. I started studying radio and media and the interest grew to want to dj. In radio as a producer of radio sting's, ad's, imagery of the station I wanted to learn more as a producer. Till then I was self taught on Adobe Addition, Pro Tool's, Soundscape. I started by using reason and re-wiring it with Pro Tool's as Reason's sequencer didn't completely appeal to me. From there I moved on to Logic Pro which I still currently use.

I went back to college and studied sound engineering and music technology. I like to know the theory as to why everything does what it does. There was a great quote I once read "The greatest creative rewards come when you understand the strengths and weaknesses of the mean's that you are working with". I, by no mean's, am where I want to be yet as producer but I learn more every day. I compete with myself to be better as a music producer. I love it, it's what get's me out of bed in the morning's.

Fiona: What are your memories of your first gig, good or bad?

Orla: I smiled there reading that question, memories of my first gig are good it was very exciting and nerve racking too.

I've had some funny thing's happen at gig's. I played a gig once and my trousers got caught in a nail and it ripped the whole back of them, had to wrap a jacket round my waste for the rest of the night. I had monitor's go on fire once. I played a venue where their fire alarm malfunctioned. It had a trigger that the sound would cut out as soon as the alarm would go off for safety so every 15 mins the music would turn off, It's funny now but wasn't at the time!

Fiona: Wow! That's hilarious - certainly baptism by fire! You tend to throw away the rule book with your productions, what have you got to say about that?

Orla: I feel like I'm being giving out too lol! Where's the fun in following the rules ? I don't think there is a rule book as such, you have certain foundations that you follow in EDM. I don't set out to re-write rules as such it's just what comes out. It's a creative process, It's music!

Fiona: You are most certainly in the top 5 female DJ/producers of trance in the world right now and being hailed as 'Irelands queen of trance'...how do you feel about that?

Orla: Could you imagine if there was a solely male top 5 the uproar there would be lol. I've made some amazingly talented women in this industry and am proud to be rated along side them. I feel that you do need to work harder when you are a women in this industry, but sure anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Fiona: We know that your international DJ career is well underway but whats your dream gig?

Orla: Well one is coming true shortly Lush in Portrush is one place I've always wanted to play and I am on Feb 27th with Richard Durand, Liam Melly and Chris Duncan. The other which is probably no surprise to anyone who has been to an ID&T event is Trance Energy, the first time i went to TE I was completely blown away it was and is an amazing event. There's many many more so I'll move on ...

Fiona: Whats going on in Orla Feeney's studio at present?

Orla: A lot of organised chaos! A few interesting bit's I'm working on at the moment that I'm having fun with. Recently finished a new track that I'm excited about which is different to anything I've done previously. I've called it "Random Madness", also just signed "Lesson Learnt" to Vandit that will be out in May. A remix I've done for Indecent Noise - Cross the Line will be out Feb 22nd on Paul Trainer's label Spellbinding records. Few remixes in the pipeline so pretty busy and I'm not complaining

Fiona: You've had support from a lot of big names in the game notably Paul van Dyk and already remixed the Italian stallion Guiseppi Ottiviani, so are there any more big guns you would like to collaborate with or remix in the future?

Orla: I do have an upcoming collab with Timmy & Tommy so that should be fun. It was incredible to have remixed for Ottoviani I've been a massive of fan since the Nu NRG days.

Fiona: The trance scene is pretty strong in Ireland. How do you see the EDM scene evolving over the next few years?

Orla: The trance scene is very strong. The Irish are a very passionate vocal audience they just go for it, it's fantastic. There is great talent in Ireland when it comes to EDM especially Trance. With the talent I can see and hear that are beginning to come through, the Irish dance scene will go from strength to strength.

Fiona: Whats been your proudest moment in your career so far and whats your plans now that 2010 is off and running?

Orla: There's been so many the last year has been a whirlwind, I've been very lucky.

To pin point it, it has to be Paul Van Dyk playing Comic Strip at trance energy and having my music signed to Vandit and remixing for Ottiviani. I'm lucky. 2010 will see a lot more music from me, some really massive gig's in the pipeline that I'm excited about that I can't give away just yet.

Taster my radio show on RTE Pulse... there will be a lot of movement with the show, I'm delighted to have John O'Callaghan on every month with an exclusive Subculture mix for Taster and Fei-Fei will also be on for an hour monthly spinning from LA exclusive to Taster as well. It's going to be a good year !

Fiona: We wish you the best of luck!

Orla: Thank you for your time
